Ordering food

What is Truck Pass?

An app for ordering from food trucks. See which trucks are open near you, order and pay from your phone, and pick up when your food is ready. No waiting in line.

How do I order?

Open Truck Pass, pick a truck that's open, add items, and pay by card. The truck accepts your order and the app tells you when it's ready to pick up.

When is my card charged?

When you order, your card is only held. You're charged when the truck accepts. If the truck declines or doesn't answer within a few minutes, the hold is released and you pay nothing.

I see a charge for an order that was declined

That's the temporary hold, not a charge. Your bank removes it, usually within a few days. If it's still there after a week, email us.

Can I cancel my order?

Yes, within 60 seconds of ordering, if the truck hasn't accepted it yet. After that, talk to the truck at the window.

My order is wrong, or I want a refund

Talk to the truck first. Your payment went straight to them, so they can fix it or refund you. If that doesn't work, email us with your order number.

Can I pay cash at the window?

Not through the app. App orders are paid by card. You can still walk up and pay the truck however they accept.

Do I pay a fee to use Truck Pass?

No service fee is added at checkout. You pay the menu prices plus local tax and any tip.

Why does it say a truck is "taking a short break"?

The truck has paused new orders for a moment, usually because they're slammed or their phone lost signal. Check back in a few minutes.

How do I sign in?

Enter your email and we'll send you a code. There's no password. The code comes from codes@truckpassapp.com. If you don't see it, check spam or junk, wait a minute, and tap resend.

How do I hear when my favorite truck is open?

Tap the heart on a truck to follow it, and allow notifications. You'll get an alert when it goes live.

Why does the app ask for my location?

To show trucks near you. It only uses your location while the app is open. See our privacy policy.

Where does Truck Pass work?

We're starting in southwest Virginia and nearby Tennessee and Kentucky. More trucks join all the time.

How do I delete my account?

See Delete your account.

Selling on Truck Pass

What does it cost?

5% of food sales on orders through the app, plus Stripe's standard card processing fee. No monthly fee, no setup fee. Tips and tax are never charged the 5%. More about the deal.

Can my customers cover the 5% instead of me?

Yes. Turn it on in Settings and your app prices go up just enough to cover it. A $10.00 item shows as $10.53 and you keep $10.00. Switch any time.

What do I need to start?

A phone or tablet, your menu, and a Stripe account for payouts (the app walks you through it). We check every new truck by hand, usually within a day.

How do I get paid?

Payments go straight into your own Stripe account. Stripe pays you out to your bank on the schedule you pick there.

How do I give a refund?

Log in to your Stripe dashboard, find the payment, and tap Refund. Then email us the order number so we can return the 5% on that order.

What happens if I miss an order?

New orders ring loud on every phone signed in to your truck, and keep ringing. If nobody answers in 3 minutes, the order is declined and the customer isn't charged. After three missed orders in a row, your truck pauses until you tap Resume.

My phone died during a rush. What now?

If no phone checks in for 2 minutes, customers see "taking a short break" and can't order. Plug in, open the app, and you're back. Keeping a tablet on a charger at the window works best.

Can my staff use their own phones?

Yes. Add them in Settings > Team with their email. They sign in with that email and only see your truck. Staff can take orders and mark items sold out; owners and managers edit the menu.

I run more than one truck

Add each one in Settings > Add another truck. They can share one menu, and each truck has its own orders, location, staff and sold-out switches.

Who handles sales tax?

In Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky, Truck Pass collects and pays the state and local sales tax on app orders. Local meals tax is yours: you set the rate when you go live, it's collected for you, and you pay it to your town or county.

I signed in and my truck is gone

Your truck is safe. You probably signed in with a different email than the one you set it up with. Sign out and sign in with that email. Not sure which one? Email us your truck's name.

How do I sign up my truck?

Truck Pass Owner isn't in the app stores yet. Join the list as a food truck owner and we'll contact you as soon as it's ready, or email us to talk now.
